A Beginner’s Guide to Hydroponic Garden

Hydroponic gardening is a form of passive hydro culture; it is a term for growing plants in water without soil. Hydroponic gardening is thriving because a lot of people prefer to eat healthy plants grown personally in their homes. Hydroponic grow system is the most sustainable way to grow hydroponic plants which uses 90% less water than terrestrial plants and also provides the same nutritional value.
For individuals who want to start their own hydroponic garden, here is a quick guide which covers almost every aspect a beginner should know before getting started.
1.      Choose a Relevant System-  With advancement in technology a number of systems are available in market to choose from, some major system types are mentioned below–
a)     Water Based – The nutrients are dissolved in water which is used as a medium for growing plants.  Usually, in a single water vessel, you can grow 5 to 9 plants, suspended into the medium through solid foam with hole for the plants.

b)     Multi Flow –In this mechanism multiple plant pots are connected to a single container with a nutrient solution. Then, a pump is used to flood each pot with the nutrient solution present in the larger container.
c)     Ebb and Flow – It is an ideal system for growing larger number of plants in your hydroponic garden. In this system, a water vessel containing every plant in separate pots is connected to a reservoir serving as a source of nutrient medium. A pump floods the water vessel with nutrient medium from the reservoir and drains out the nutrient medium back to the reservoir. This whole process is regulated using a timer linked to the pump.
2.      Get the Right Reservoir - Find a leak proof container of a size enough to hold all your plants. It must be six to eight inches deep for example a fish tank is one of the best options. If you want a proper reservoir for gardening, buy the best quality reservoirs at online gardening stores.
3.      Pump Some Oxygen - After you have the reservoir, the next task is to find a pump sufficient enough to maintain the flow of oxygen in the hydroponic reservoir.
4.      Connecting the Air Stone – The oxygen in the reservoir is provided by an air stone compatible with the pump. The air stone has an output pipe(known as Airline) that sends oxygen in the form of bubbles to the water used by the plants. In case you find it difficult to set up a garden, use a hydroponic garden kit to get your hydroponic garden ready promptly.
5.      Installations – Take foam (preferably Styrofoam) which will be used as a lid on the upper part of the pots containing plants. Create a few holes in the foam and perform these steps:-
·        Set up the airline
·        Fill the pots with inert hydroponic medium.
·        Put the plants in the pot.
·        Switch on your pump.
·        Check whether the water is flowing through all the pots or not.
This makes the seedlings ready to grow into health plants; in future you can expect to have a healthy hydroponic garden.
The absence of soil eliminates any chances of soil diseases and pests in your garden. These benefits of Hydroponic Garden system are the reason why they are an innovative method for growing healthier plants. The introduction of Hydroponic Systems in UK has proved to be one of the best tools for hydroponic farming.
